February 2012 Happenings

As of the February meeting we have 47 paid members of Atlanta RC Club. This is our second meeting since we changed the meeting time to 2:00pm. The meeting was opened with a discussion about a our club and where we stand with the county. It was agreed that the club needs to file a letter of intent with Dekalb County that clearly states our mission moving forward. Filing the letter of intent with Dekalb County will be done in advance of asking permission from the county to run electricity or any other improvements moving forward.

Special visitor Mr. Scott Peterson is very knowledgeable about Entrenchment Creek Park as well as the surrounding area from a historical perspective as well as a political perspective. Mr. Peterson offered his insights on ways to draft the letter of intent. Mr Peterson suggested that we encourage 'neighbors' to join us in using the land Entrenchment Creek Park sits on so that we all have a common purpose of promoting positive uses for the land. Everyone thanked Mr. Peterson and met his suggestions with open minds and ears. We thank him for his participation in our meeting as well as sharing his insights and knowledge.

Vice President Wicki Mitchell agreed to update the club ByLaws and mission statement for review by Atlanta RC Club Officers. The current set of ByLaws has not been updated in over 2 decades and requires review. The new Bylaws will be reviewed, then signed by the Club Officers. Those ByLaws will be submitted to our Dekalb County Commissioner along with a letter of intent to show Atlanta RC Club's interest in Entrenchment Creek Park.

Morale building events such as family days and charity events were discussed. The membership agrees that more frequent club family days will bring stronger unity among our members. It was also agreed unanimously that charity events should be held to contribute back to the community. The family day and charity events suggested were Fun Fly type of events or where part of the proceeds go the charity or charities voted for at a meeting prior to the event.

Special Notes

Regarding improvements to Atlanta RC Club it is important to observe the following:

  1. Atlanta RC Club occupies Entrenchment Creek Park which is a Dekalb County Park and is not owned by Atlanta RC Club. All alterations or imporvments to the property must be present to the County by the Atlanta RC Club Officers or an appointee.
  2. All work for improvements must go through the Atlanta RC Club Officers where they will obtain permission from Dekalb County for proposed improvements
  3. All submissions for improvements must be in WRITTEN form. This includes but is not limited to: Quotes, drawings for proposed improvements, contact information for any contractors to be involved.
  4. Improvements will not be considered or acknowledged for voting without written quotes from licensed contractors
  5. Atlanta RC Club Officers are the liason between Dekalb County Officials and the Club. Members are not to contact Dekabl County concering improvements or maintenance without prior consent from the Atlanta RC Club Officers

Closing

Our members are what makes up Atlanta RC Club, not any one person. It is important that we act as a group to maintain the land we occupy and we as a group are a positive addition to the area. As we move forward we need people to stand up and volunteer to bring children, students, boys and girls clubs or other organizations to our Club so we can give back to the community. When we give back to the community everyone wins.
