April 1st - Club Meeting 2:00 PM

March 2012 Happenings

The meeting started at 2:00pm on a very windy March day. We quickly went into discussing the status of the ByLaw and Mission Statement update with Vice President Wicki Mitchell. The ByLaws have been edited to add pertinent verbiage based on clubs that are similar to ours. The mission statement is also being updated to send a clearer message about who Atlanta RC Club is. The ByLaws Will be ready for review in Mid-March by the Atlanta RC Club officers. Once the ByLaws are agreed upon, they will be signed by the officers and then submitted to our Dekalb County Commissioner with a letter of intent to show our support and interest in Entrenchment Creek Park.

Alex Mitchell came in contact with the person who bought Atlanta RC Club's domain name when it expired nearly 2 years ago. The Dot COM domain was negotiated for purchase at $150 paid to the current owner. A vote by show of hands showed unanimous support that the club agreed this would be an advantage for the club to buy back the .COM domain.

A discussion about progress with the PATH project in our park was mentioned. Alex Mitchell agreed to touch base with County and PATH officials to see where the Entrenchment Creek PArk portion of the PATH project stands.

Property Improvements

Atlanta RC Club will not propose any projects to our Dekalb County Commissioner or Parks Manager until we have filed our updated and signed ByLaws along with our Mission Statement and Letter of Intent. It was agreed that all contact with Dekalb County Officials should come from Officers of Atlanta RC Club only. Individual members should not contact County Officials as a representative of Atlanta RC Club about Mowing requests, Property Improvement requests, etc. without expressed consent from Atlanta RC Club Officers. Atlanta RC Club Officers represent the club as a whole and the county prefers to be contacted via the Elected Officers of Atlanta RC Club only.

Modifications to the land or structures is not permitted without prior consent from the Atlanta RC Club Officers. There is also a set of rules that involve submitting projects for approval to the county or approval by the club.
If you are submitting a proposal for shelters, benches, grading, or maintenance for voting into approval by members and or submission to the county the following criteria MUST be provided:

  1. A written description of said improvements.
  2. A written quote from a licensed contractor.
  3. If said proposal is for a structure you must supply drawings or photos representative of the proposed structure.

Until the above items are submitted ON PAPER there will be no voting on any improvement nor will it be submitted to the county for review. The list may not be limited to the items above depending on the project. Other criteria may be mandatory to vote on or file requests depending on the project and County reqruiements.

As we get closer to completing the updated ByLaws and they are voted in by our membership we will revisit improvement ideas budget allowing. We have lots of interest in our club from new pilots. It looks like this could be an exciting year to meet new people and regain some members from the past. We look forward to ssing what the year has to bring and hope to share our success with the community.
