February Meeting

The February meeting turned out to be a fabulous day. We had twelve members for the meeting. Rob Setili started off the meeting indicating that we had about 30 members renew their membership for 2009. This is a significant number for this time of the year. However, we certainly need more old and new members. Please be sure to tell everyone that you know, about the wonderful members of our club and the fantastic facilities that we have.

The issue of updating our web page was brought up. Alex Mitchell said that he and Iven Connary had discussed this and that they just needed the time to get it going. Well it is now well on its way with the preliminary version already up on our web site. It is really outstanding with just some minor things to be completed. The gallery is not complete but it had a really awesome video from the canopy of a model flying at our field.

After the meeting had ended I was talking with some of the members about our electric power problems. Again the suggestion of solar panels came up. This would be a one time expense as opposed to a power pole. Some members are afraid that the solar panels will be stolen and are therefore against them. I pointed out that people have also been stealing the copper wire from power poles so I think that this is a poor argument. I really think that we should continue to discuss this option.

Gate Combination Change

The gate combination will be changed after the April meeting. If you want to continue having access to the field please pay your dues as soon as possible. Remember your dues go to paying for field maintenance and upgrades, the porta-potty and food for club meetings. These are all things that everyone benefits from. So pay your dues before you are locked out.

Meeting with Dekalb County

On February 12th Marvin Durden, Rob Setili and I met the with one of the members of the Dekalb Count Parks Department Division of of Green Space. This is the organization that obtained the field for the county. We had a wonderful discussion about the club and the things that we would like to do to upgrade the property. He again reiterated that the county was extremely happy having us at the site. He said that he would try and get our field on the lawn mowing schedule. This would be great because it would help us cut down our expenses. We then discussed the proposed power pole and other field upgrades. Unfortunately there is no master plan for our field and we cannot get any upgrades until we speak to the people working on this master plan. In the future we will be meeting with these people to be sure that they know the things that we would like done to the field.
