July Meeting

The July meeting was moved to July 12th from the July 4th weekend so that members could spend the weekend with their families and not miss the membership meeting. I think that it is a good idea to move meetings when they fall on a major holiday. I believe that we should continue to do this. Our membership is now up to 48 so we are approaching last years numbers.

In order to try and increase our membership I suggested that we make flyers about the club to be put at the local hobby shops. I have contacted Alex Mitchell about creating such a flyer. When these are made we will need some members to distribute them to local hobby shops. I will contact the membership when they are completed.

Kip Laurie is preparing for the September Heli Fun fly. I have forwarded an email to the membership from Kip indicating that he will be out of town during the important time just before the event for getting the advertising distributed. If you can help please contact Kip and let him know what you can do. This is an important event and we should all do what we can.

We still have no one to organize an airplane event. We have a lot of airplane fliers so lets have someone step forward to get this going.

At the meeting we discussed having some sort of event for Boy Scouts. I asked how many scouts we could accommodate. The suggestion was not more than 40. It was also suggested that we have some computers available with flight simulators so that scouts could practice before they actually got stick time. I will see what I can do to help get this going.

The Heli people made a motion that the club spend $150 to put up a safety fence. This was seconded and passed.

I was able to sell the models donated by Mike Dailey for $150 dollars for both models. Lets thank Mike again for his generous contribution.

Upcoming Meeting

There seems to be some friction between the heli people and the plane people about the helicopters flying both pattern and perpendicular over the runway while planes are in the air. This can lead to a very tragic event destroying two very expensive aircraft. There are two helicopter locations that should give the pilots the opportunity to fly without interfering with the runway. I think that some rules need to be formulated about helicopters using the space over the runway. I suggest that there be a good turnout on both side, heli and plane people, to discuss this matter. Please come to the meeting if you want to have some input into this important matter.
