December Meeting

The main order of business for the December meeting was the election of club officers for the upcoming year. The following people were elected by a unanimous vote by the ten members that came to the meeting.

President: Rob Setili
Vice President: Tim Neeland
Secretary/Treasurer: Alex Mitchell
Newsletter Editor: Joerg Wekenborg
Helicopter Safety Officer: Mike O’Rourke
Airplane Safety Officer: Tim Neeland

The new club flying rules that were published in the November Newsletter were also unanimously approved. A copy of these rules are now posted in the shelter.
Marvin Durden said that he has been in continuous contact with Dekalb County about the status of the Atlanta RC Club. He indicated that the County is now drawing up an agreement for the club, based on the one that Henry County has with the Henry County RC Club, that will officially sanction the Atlanta RC Club and our dedicated use of our current field. This agreement will mean that only members will be allowed to use the field. If you know of anyone that is not a member that uses the field please inform them that now would be a great time to pay their dues so that they can continue to use the field.

Club Dues

The first meeting is always a great time to pay your dues if you have not already done so. Please give your money, $60, and show your new AMA card, if you have already received it, to the new Secretary/ Treasurer or any other club officer. Remember everyone has to show proof of AMA membership to join the club and to use the field.

Chili Fly

January 1st will be our annual Chili Fly. At this event members bring some of their favorite chili and fixin’s to be shared with the other members of the club. We always have a good turn out and everyone has a great time. Last year Rocky Smith brought a foamy plane that his daughter tried to shoot down with a paint ball gun. The weather can be anything from balmy to freezing but everyone always goes home with great memories. Please be sure to put this meeting on your schedule. It is a great way to start off the new year.

Presidents Goodbye

I would like to thank all of the members of the Atlanta RC club for their support during my time as President. I would especially like to thank Tim Neeland and Rob Setili for all of their assistance in running the club and to our wonderful Web masters Alex Mitchell and Jorge Wekenborg for the wonderful job of keeping everyone in cyberland aware of our wonderful club. My thanks also go to Kip Laurie for starting and continuing our Helicopter fun fly events. These have been an inspiration to all and have attracted new members. It would be wonderful if we could also create an airplane event.
