ALERT

By executive Order of Dekalb County, the Atlanta RC field is still closed.  See the full order here

1-4-2024 Updates:

  1. We got formal notification from AMA/FAA that our FRIA for the field is approved. That's great news and means that once we're back flying at the field, we will not need transponders there.
    • The status for your FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA) application 2023-CBO-01581-FRIA - Atlanta RC Club #223 - Constitution Road has been updated.
    • FRIA Application Status: Approved
  2. Dekalb has started some park development work at our field... No timeline or any other info yet. We did hear that Ryan Millsap won his lawsuit vs the protest group over the land swap, so the property that was in the swap that belongs to him (about 40 acres E of the runway) is now clearly under his ownership. Things are moving. Not sure what it means good or bad, but they are in motion.

Looking ahead

The officers are working on a plan to keep the club charter and web presence intact in quiet mode, until such time as the field reopens. We will not accept nor ask for membership dues for 2024, since there's no field to fly at. The membership roster from 2023 will carry over. Once we have a place to fly, we will reach out for dues. We have a vision for a grand re-opening party and fly-in when the field reopens.

So, this is true now and has been for a while: This is a marathon, not a sprint, and we're committed to seeing it through to whatever the outcome is.
